Auschwitz Memorial

The memorial and museum at the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp built during the Nazi occupation of Poland. Over a million people were murdered by the Nazis at the camp during the Second World War, most of them civilians including children. The memorial functions as a reminder of what can happen, and campaigns for it never to happen again.

Joey Deruy

Self-taught, exhibited artist with a distinctive abstract style using colourful shapes on pale backgrounds, sometimes with figurative and other non-abstract elements mixed in. Deruy was partly raised in Kenya, and there are African influences on his art too.

Interzone Magazine

Long-running award-winning science fiction and fantasy magazine founded in 1982, publishing short stories and non-fiction pieces as well as full colour illustrations. It publishes both established and unknown writers, and its past contributors include many luminaries such as Terry Pratchett, Iain M. Banks, Gwyneth Jones, J.G. Ballard, William Gibson etc.

The Fedivision Song Contest

An annual event on the Fediverse where people are given a couple of weeks to create a song, then they are published and people on the Fediversevote on a favourite. Usually takes place on or around the time of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Radio Regentrude

German-language online music radio station. The station is non-profit, non-commercial, legally licensed, and funded by the people who run it. The music is international, programmes are mainly in German, but with some shows in English.

Snikket

XMPP-based free open federated messenger project. It aims to make XMPP into a more viable alternative to Whatsapp etc by providing consistency in design and terminology, while still maintaining compatibility with other XMPP apps and servers. (It’s a similar plan to how Mastodon made ActivityPub more mainstream while still being compatible with other ActivityPub server types.)

A non-profit coalition of Dutch broadcasters, museums, arts organisations etc. campaigning for an ethical internet. They organise conferences on this topic, and run their own Fediverse servers.
